Jeppe joins Garmin´s Edufit Program

Garmin Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd., has an Edufit schools program which recognizes and supports school sporting excellence in South Africa. Garmin understands that the future of South African sport lies in our schools, for this reason Garmin has committed to bettering young talent by introducing a support structure for both pupils and training staff within schools by sponsoring their tops teams and athletes with fitness products which are essential to today´s modern training practices. Garmin recently signed on Jeppe High school for Boys, providing them with top of the range fitness devices which the coaches will use to monitor the players fitness performance both on and off the field.

Traditional coaching methods together with fitness training in the gym have become the norm. “Garmin has selected schools across the country that could benefit from its products, systems and fitness programs, and hopes that these devices will help train and improve individual performance levels overall, said Walter Mech, Garmin Southern Africa Managing Director.” Garmin evaluates each school based on its approach to fitness, where schools competing at this level need to ensure that the athletes are healthy and are recovering well after their workouts and intense fixtures.

Garmin provides fitness devices in the form on training watches, heart rate monitors and a world-wide database to keep track of each athlete´s performance. Garmin´s fitness watches feature innovative wireless technology that automatically sends workout data to a computer for analysis at a later stage. Training watches and heart rate monitors track times, calories burnt and heart rates. Garmin Connect, a world-wide database of Garmin sports enthusiasts, has tools to let the coach or user analyse core metrics, create reports and set goals to track the team´s fitness progress.

Garmin believes in the talent of today´s youth and are dedicated to investing in them. “Today´s youth is tomorrow leaders. Youth who depict persistence, dedication, endurance and hard work in their sports will learn the true key to success in the future. It´s a privilege to know that we are changing lives,” says Walter Mech, Garmin Southern Africa Managing Director.
